Inferno!

A bit of drama last night - A house about 200m from us caught fire. Shirley smelt something burning and while I was trying to sniff out the source, she realised it was coming from outside.

So I ran out to have a look if it was the park behind our house (and started planning stuff to evacuate) and saw the first response fire team arriving on the scene. For a split second, I thought of running towards the fire to see if I could help, but I'd probably be more hinderance than help, seeing as the size of the blaze was apparently 'visible from kilometers away'.

I went back and got shirley to have a look but by that time, the smoke was so thick that we started coughing as soon as we stepped out of the house.

According to The Age, the fire had started in the roof and it was burning a while before anyone realised that it was happening.

Luckily our neighbours got out but the two dogs (one was a really yappy maltese that used to snap at Ginger every time we walked by, the other was a more curious fox terrier) weren't so lucky.
