Sweeney Todd and the Second Coming

Had a slightly higher than normal abundance of spare time on my hands and "Sweeney Todd" arose as an option to spend a couple of hours of light entertainment, or so I thought.

First of all, Tim Burton has always been a bit of a hit or miss for me. I liked some of his works (Ed Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Batman), others.. not so (corpse bride, nightmare before x'mas, ed wood).. So my impression of Burton films has pretty much averaged out to.. well, average.

Then came Sweeney Todd. A musical no less. The idea of Johnny Depp singing in black and white (pretty much) in a 'hei dian' kind of story didn't seem very remarkable at first.

But I have to say, having low expectations helped. It turned out to be a winner, drawing me in the more and more the storyline developed. Johnny Depp was a great fit as he kept a pretty blank expression most of the time. Very edward scissorhands-ish.

Anyway, I'm not going to build it up for you if you haven't seen it. But underneath the gore which was thankfully quite restrained, it's probably one of the more entertaining movies I've watched in recent times.

Ok. Enough with the movie reviews. How about a little nostalgia. My blog's been going on for 5 years ! I only found out recently because my webserver is running out of space storing all my ramblings over time. I'm thinking of other options now. Maybe I should finally give up this domain name ?

Heard about this in passing before but someone mentioned this on the radio recently as well. But there was a hoax about a group claiming to want to clone Jesus.

I can't make up my mind about whether it's a distubing idea - even if it was scientifically possible.. who would have the guts to do it ? And would it really matter ? If we talk about a top 10 list of 'influences on mankind in the last 2,000 years', JC is probably pretty high on that list, if not sitting atop it.

Think about it for a while and write your own story in your head.
