Labour Day Weekend

As you’ve probably noticed, I haven’t been updating the blog recently. It’s been a while since I’ve worked on a job that causes me to look forward to the weekend. Not that I hate the work mind you, but it’s just pretty taxing, and the weekend is ‘recovery time’ to energise me for the following week again.

So taking this opportunity as a long weekend (it’s labour day today) I thought I’d post an update.

Saturday we brought ginger swimming again. The canine country club had built an outdoor pool and we thought we’d give that a go. It was the first time I’d seen Ginger go straight into the water without any prodding. She just went nuts swimming around in the pool. We thought we’d get a little more adventurous and teach her to do some doggy diving. It took a bit of effort but eventually, she was jumping into the deep end of the pool on her own !

Got an email from an ex-colleague at ASEF announcing that she was moving on. And it struck me that it’s been 3+ years since I left at the end of 2003. Wow. Time flies huh. Looking back, I don’t think I would’ve known then what I’d be doing now. It’s interesting that the people who’ve hung around the longest so far are the ones who really keep the place going. Imagine all the intellectual capital they’ve accumulated – Kinda like civil servants who’ve been in one job so long that they can tell while you’re still in the queue exactly what form you need to fill up.

But yeah. Over 3 years. Sometimes, having ‘settled in’ here, it’s kind of hard to imagine adapting back to life in Sing when we eventually go back. One thing’s likely - we’d never cook again. Speaking of cooking, Shirley’s gotten the baking bug. These r a batch of blueberry mini-muffins she whipped up. She used one of those new silicone muffin trays which are kinda fun to use. They’re bendable and stuff doesn’t stick to them.

Resolutions haven’t been going well. Haven’t started jogging and Golf is deteriorating. At least I’ve taken ‘the test’ and I’m still planning to get the car.
