Here's an interesting concept - coffee as a persuasive tool. Wonder if its a good idea to read and drink coffee at the same time. Maybe for self-help books ?

Speaking of self-help, I've been to the golf range four times in the past 7 days now. Is that normal ? :P I can't say I'm a big fan of the game. I don't see how clobbering a little ball can be exciting - maybe when I get to the short game... I guess at this point I'm just trying to figure out whether it's something that I can be good in. I remember a quote from Michael Jordan when I was a kid that stuck with me.

"I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying."

So if I'm going to try golf, I'm going to try it as best I can. Of course it helps that Shirley is busy preparing for her exams, thus leaving me with an added abudance of free time. :)

Weather's getting cold now. It was 3 degrees two nights ago. Sometimes I wonder why we have a fridge. Fridges should be half-sticking out of a house, so that you can turn it on only when you need to. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense to turn on a fridge to keep food cool, when you turn on a heater to keep the rest of the house warm.

Shirley's relatives are popping over soon (this thurs) so we'll be busy playing host again for a fortnight. Going to bring them to brissy too ('cos they don't speak english) which is kind of weird because the furthest we've brought guests is to the 12 apostles.

Work is getting interesting. Not that my other projects weren't interesting before but I'm learning to deal with the different aspects of a corporate environment, especially the intangible bits and the stuff you don't learn in the business books. Dealing with people. I've had people snap at me and people trying to butter me up. Drastically different responses even though my approach is the same. Also, my clients are increasingly seeking my help as opposed to me offering it, which is a nice feeling - to be needed. Especially knowing how much my partner is charging them for my time. :P

Met up with a few 'old' classmates over the weekend during an engagement party. It's interesting to meet up a year after graduation and see how every one is doing. Those who enjoy the (hectic) consulting lifestyle, are still doing it. Apparently, quite a few of the top tier consultants are working like dogs. Of the three in McK, two work 12-16 hour days on average. (the third one is so busy no one's heard from). Two in ATK are only in Melbourne 1/3 of the time. I've heard other horror stories such as working overnight for a 8am presentation. *shudder* I came to Australia to avoid having to do all that. Maybe these guys should be shipped to Singapore or HongKong instead :D

Anyway, I might go for a few hits at the range again later. Life is good. :)

By the way, it's my parent's anniversary today. At some point 32 plus years ago, they made the very wise decision to get together and have me (and each other of course). Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad ! Love you heaps ! And for everyone else, if you have a free moment to spare, think about a loved one and how much you mean to them and vice versa. Chances are, it's a loved one who's had an influence over who you are today so it's always nice to remember why we are who we are, regardless of our current circumstances.
