Two bouts of strangeness

Two bouts of strangeness

Strangeness Un

On the highway on my way to work, I saw a personalised plate that had an Asian guy's name on it. "RonNg" or something along those lines... and I was thinking to myself, "Hmmm.. I wonder how much it'd cost to put my name on it.. maybe YAP or something"

Yup. U guessed it. 1 minute later, I saw a Red MX-5 with the plate "YAP"

Strangeness Deux

Walking under some trees from the carpark to the office, I noticed a bunch of birds in the trees. And one of them was an Owl. Up till then I had never seen an owl in the wild and I'd always thought it was because owls were nocturnal. Guess this guy was an insomniac.

<"/end strangeness">...

Hope you weren't expecting anything interesting :P

Here's a thought though. Gayness has been a big thing here recently. There're two of them in Big Brother, and the latest evictee (a straight guy) was 'shot' in a 'compromised position' with a gay guy. Shirley and I were just talking about this during our occasional discussions on parenting - What if your kid turned out gay ?

See, the thing is, there's this big push that gayness is born, not conditioned. While I don't entirely agree with this, I'm not gay so I'm not really in a position to say. But if we follow the argument that gayness is born, this means that the genes of a gay were predispositioned towards gayness ? Which also implies that the parents producing those genes (or that particular combination) are somewhat flawed.

Why ? because human reproduction is designed such that genes (and the survival of the species) are carried on from generation to generation. If that continuity doesn't happen, those gene codes are no longer transferred and thus ends the branch of that family tree.

Back to my point. Does having a gay child imply that the parents have bad (or a bad combination of) genes ? Maybe that's why parents find it hard to deal with gay children ? I dunno. Shirley and I didn't really come up with an answer, but then again, I don't think there are any right answers.

Update 1: Bought tickets to watch Hugh Jackman in The Boy from Oz in August. He'd better be good.

Update 2: In relation to the parenting discussion, we were also talking about celebrity kid's names. Finally, some celebrity is returning to normalcy - Mira Sorvino's son is called Johnny.

You just brought up a topic very dear to my heart as I have quite a few gay friends :)

I don't think gayness is born or conditioned - I think it's a combination of both. My theory is this - that everyone has it in them to be gay, just whether circumstances, upbringing, and various other conditions influence someone to be gay.

hmm, was thinking of posting on my blog about this but now i'm thinking the topic is a bit too controversial...
