In most justice systems, a judge which is made is very important because it also sets the tone for future judgements of a similar nature - this is known as precedence.
I know a lot has been said about the war in iraq but Bush has recently admitted that the intelligence was wrong. (whether it was false to begin with is a different story). But he is quick to defend the invasion because "We are in Iraq today because our goal has always been more than the removal of brutal dictator"
Which brings me back to the issue I have. If we extract the lack of weapons of mass destruction and the hostility towards the US, the only boat of reason that isn't sinking is that Saddam was a brutal dictator.
In WWII, the US didn't go to war because they felt that hitler was 'unjust', they went to war because they were attacked at Pearl Harbour. In Bosnia, the intention was to depose an aggressive dictator bent on genocide. Yet in Saddam's case, despite cruetly to his people, the only conflict he had with the US took place a decade ago and ended with crippling sanctions being slapped on his country.
So if we give Bush the benefit of the doubt by not suggesting that oil was the motivating factor, this places Bush at the head of a global 'police force' with the aim of eliminating every 'cruel'despot in a non-democratic country.
Iran comes to mind. As does fellow "Axis of evil" alumnus, North Korea.
Guess Bush would take them ALL down, if only he had more time.
Oh well. Ranting aside, I'm still waiting for a seat to be home for Christmas. I'm hoping to get one, so I can catch up with everyone for at least a week or so. Doesn't look very good but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
Back to work. Todays max : 33. I'm glad I'm in an office :)
