The disgraced opposition leader I mentioned in my last post attempted to take his own life. Talk about ups and downs. One minute (after 6 beers) he's flirting with reporters, making inappropriate suggestions and racial slurs (despite being the Shadow Minister for Ethnic Affairs), the next minute he's slit his wrists. Can't imagine something like that happening in Singapore politics.

Found out something interesting the other day. While idly comparing life here and back home, I was trying to imagine what (and how) we'd be doing back in Singapore. I decided to check how petrol prices were in SG, seeing as they're skyrocketing over here (breaking A$1.30 this couple of weeks)

Apparently, Australia takes it petrol prices from Singapore ! I kid you not !

"The reason Australian petrol prices follow Singapore market prices is that Australian refineries must compete against petrol imports (overall, about 13 percent of our petrol was imported last financial year) and Singapore is a major source of petrol for importers. "

House hunt-wise, we met up with the agent selling the house we've been most keen at looking so far (the one opposite what looks like public housing) and he's basically giving us a deadline to make an offer by tonight. We don't really respond well to pressure tactics but at least he's quite pleasant about it. So things are quite uncertain at the moment. Would be nice to have a refresher class in negotiations.
