If anyone ever needs irony explained to them, here's a good example - French Journalists are being held hostage in Iraq by muslim militants who demand that the French (in France) repeal their new law banning headscarves in (French) schools.

This is the real ironical bit - In this report: militants calling themselves the Islamic Army of Iraq demanded France revoke a new law banning head scarves in public schools, calling it "an aggression on the Islamic religion and personal freedoms"

They make a statement against agression in "personal freedoms" by taking hostages ?
It boggles the mind.

On the theme of irony, here's another one : Scientists are figuring out how to use drugs to treat addicts. I guess it isn't as ironical, since rather than have the drug money go into the hands of underworld bosses, they'd rather have junkies hooked on prescription medicines which can be taxed.
