And now there's evidence !
Taking a shower is the most popular way of getting our creative juices flowing, with 44 per cent of us heading beneath the nozzle when in need of a mental breakthrough.
I never understood why but I had a few theories:
1) Dirt was blocking the idea from entering my brain
2) Dirt was forming the idea like an oyster forms a pearl, and washing it breaks apart the oyster shell
3) Dirt WAS the idea and because of my bad shower habits, I was actually protecting the dirt by adding layers of conditioner to keep it nourished
4) A shower head was a simulation of a downpour of rain, as in like a storm. And my brain being so near to the showerhead meant that I was in a 'brainstorm' session. *collective groan*
Anyway, I'm not sure what the Crowne Plaza hotel chain was intending to do by commissioning such a study. Maybe they were hoping to market their rooms and showers as 'idea hubs' ? (Are you taking note Oh Fusion-o-polis-people ?)
I also thought this paragraph was interesting.
The research also showed that 58 per cent of people forget their best ideas by failing to write them down immediately, although women are more successful at keeping note of their brainwaves.
I recall a time where I used to carry little pieces of scrap paper in my wallet to write ideas down whenever and wherever. Unfortunately I forgot to bring a pen which often rendered ready-to-write-paper useless.
Speaking of new ideas, we tried a few this past weekend. Fishing and Golfing.
Together. Yes.
Shirley's been bitten by the golfing gnat. So much so that SHE's bugging me to go play golf now. We got her a golf set (Pink. Of course. You were expecting maybe orange ?) and she's been smashing the ball to smithereens. Or at least to the 50m signboard at the driving range.
As for fishing. Shirley also now officially owns her first fishing rod. We popped by St Kilda to give it a try. We came to the conclusion that there were no fish in the sea. Because despite using yummy beef shabu shabu as bait, all we got were a few tiny nibbles from japanese fish who happened to be passing by.
Next time we go fishing, we're using meat pies and beer-flavoured bait to try and catch some OZZIE fish.
I should probably write that idea down before I...
Oh wait.
What was I talking about ?
