[So much for my trying to get blogging again. Guess I’ll do it when I do it. Beats me saying it again and again.]
So on the launch day of Harry Potter, I expected a horrendous queue to buy the book. Apparently there were people who had camped out in front of the book stores, dressed up and everything. At 9am (our time), millions of people around the world simultaneously bought the final edition of the Potter Parable. Apparently there were 12 books sold every second.
Craziness.
So being allergic to queues (I refused to pre-order it because I didn’t want to ‘locked in’ to any one store), I strolled in at 1.30pm and was the only customer in the store. Guess it was way too overhyped, or all the people who had bought it from 9am to 1.30pm were already deeply engrossed in it.
Shirley’s been down with a cough and a cold the past week or so she’s been keeping herself occupied while resting in bed with Harry Potter. And she’s felt it appropriate to share with me part of the storyline while she reads it.
So we went skiing/ snowboarding a fortnight ago. It was absolutely fantastic. Didn’t take too many pictures because we realized that with a white background, all the photos from our past trips looked the same. Although it was a bigger group this time (there were 8 of us), we managed to get some really good time on the slopes. It helped that the snowfall was the best in the past 13 years. We’re dying to go again soon but it’s not a cheap sport. :P
Work’s been pretty busy for me. It seems strange that a strategy project is keeping me so busy but there’s a lot to learn about the businesses, plus I’m being asked for help on a whole different range of problems that don’t necessarily have to do with strategy. For example, today my assistance was asked from pivot tables in excel, to an externality/common good argument for government and planners, to a third-party view on starting a new division in the company – all that before lunch. Odd. But it keeps me challenged so I’m not complaining.
Ginger’s doing well for all those concerned. I’ve been trying to wake up early mornings to bring her for a walk. It helps get my brain up and running, and draining her energy in the morning keeps her less restless the rest of the day – especially when both me and Shirley are at work.
And I STILL haven’t posted up pix of our new car. Shirley finds it amusing that we’ve got two cars and they’re both shades of red. Kind of like a colour code.
Anyway, I’m off to bed now. Hope you’re all keeping well.
