It’s funny. You’d think that after my project ended last week, I’d have more free time, ergo more time to post on the blog. But yet it’s been the exact opposite.
So I’ll try to fill in the blanks.
After coming back from Singapore, I pretty much had another 3 weeks to tie up the loose ends on the projects that I’d completed. The construction projects were done, I had to run a final training for the decision support system, and basically hand over everything else to their respective project owners.
That was pretty much my busiest working period in Australia so far.
Then it came to a controlled grinding halt on Friday. And it was bliss thereafter. I’ve slept in every morning so far, taken my time to cook my brunch of choice, walked the dog at a leisurely pace, watched daytime TV… It’s like retirement 101.
Not that I’ve completely given up on work of course. I’m still putting out feelers to pick up my next project and at the same time. I’m working on an idea of my own. But it is nice to not think about work or ‘the future’ for a while. I guess I’ve joined the ‘Post-MBA reassessment’ party a little late.
Among my cohort who ended up in consulting, (the ones whom I hear about) we’ve had three quit to join corporates (all Jetstar interestingly enough), one to help his family business, another quit to try a different industry and one quit to go back to his old industry… In fact, pulling statistics out of my backwards regions, I’d say about half of those who started out in consulting so far have made a significant change in another direction.
Lifestyle ? Pace ? Who knows. I know that for now, I’m enjoying this time at home, getting stuff done around the house, and dreaming of bigger things.
Will keep you posted about what I’m doing next but in the meantime, I’m enjoying this little taste of retirement.
(Haven’t forgotten about the new year’s resolutions either.. next post. I promise)
