It's census night tonight. Everyone is supposed to sit at home and fill in their census forms at 8.30 tonight. This includes visitors from overseas (of which we are about to have quite a few soon)

But Australians aren't generally big on civic obedience.

In 2001, more than 70,000 people declared themselves as 'Jedi' when asked to fill in their religion.

Unfortunately (or does it really matter?) for the jedi-wannabes, their religion was classified as 'undefined'.

But the census takers, like the mailpeople, trudge on through hail, snow, or jedi mind tricks. In fact, they're so keen on getting your information that:

If you are in prison or a police holding cell on Tuesday 8th August, you will be recorded there. Police and the prison staff will assist you filling in your form.

Wow. They're really serious about this eh. They're even counting the homeless folk. How's that for inclusion.

Anyway, an Americanised singaporean friend of shirley's is dropping by tomorrow. It'll be an interesting melting pot in our house come friday night when we host a dinner that covers an extremely diverse range of friends. Looks like a busy week this week, topping it off on sunday with Hugh Jackman and The boy from oz.
