It was a welcome relief to be home two nights ago. After having spent the past fortnight bringing our guests around, we were glad to be back in our cove of comfort.
We were at the Gold Coast from Saturday to Wednesday, covering Movie World, Dream World and Sea World (which our guests visited without us). Assorted shopping trips and many meals out later, we ended our trip with a 4 hour wait at the airport before we caught our flight home.
Read an article in the Financial Times this morning. Single party rule ‘best for Singapore’
Although the democracies of Australia and New Zealand made for “more exciting” politics, the national interest could suffer in a multi-party system, said Mr Lee.
Not up to commenting about his remarks but I thought the article might be worth a look for anyone interested. I do find it strange though that he would make these sorts of remarks while visiting these countries in an effort to improve economic relations. After all, I would think it was bad manners for a guest to come into my house and criticize my cooking.
Then again, he was probably pissed about not getting SQ the SYD-LAX route.
Back in the world of us ordinary folk. Excitement is building up for our skiing next weekend ! We’ve almost got all our ski gear organised (just short of picking up Shirley’s ski boots) and it’s all been tuned and waxed.
Speaking of ordinary folks, Shirley has this saying about how “people may be the same but we lead different lives”. And it struck me when I bumped into an old schoolmate at Brisbane Airport on weds.
I probably had classes him when I was at St Andrews, and although we never talked much, we probably played a few games of football. I hadn’t seen him in maybe two decades now and there he was behind the counter of a cafĂ© at the airport. So I had a chat with him and found out that he’d graduated almost two years ago from UQ having done a degree in tourism. He’s been looking for a job since but hasn’t had much luck. So he’s been doing casual work while keeping up his job hunt.
I always find it fascinating that as time passes, even though we might have been on the same path at some point in our lives, our paths evolve and diverge or converge with other people on their own paths.
Ok. Back to your regularly scheduled lives.
*makes mental note to post up pictures later*
