I'm not sure if it's due to selective perception but I'm reading a lot more about dissenting opinions re: the SG govt these days. I suggest selective perception because I don't really read much via the mainstream media channels and get more information through blogs and such.
Anyway, I've probably re-iterated this point before but the only way things are going to change in Singapore is if there is an urgency for change. Reform doesn't happen if there isn't a problem in the first place.
It doesn't just take a very brave leader to shape the status quo into something he/she believes that the country needs to do well in the future. It also takes a mandate given to him/her by a group of people (preferably the majority)
Unfortunately, aside from the fact that there aren't enough credible people running for opposition, the strong arm tactics of the ruling party make it a very slippery slope for any opposing individual.
Just feeling a bit sorry for the poor souls who truly believe that they are 'guided' to help the singapore people, but are being 'bankrupted' out of contention.
Ah well.. c'est la vie...
Got some of our new furniture (made in malaysia) yesterday. Will post up photos once we're done getting it integrated into our house.
On a side note, this article further exemplifies what I've been discovering recently. As you try to progress further up the corporate ladder, it's not your technical expertise that matters anymore. It's the soft skills - Business Development, Managing the Client's expectations, etc.
Guess that's partly why I'm inclined to take up golf soon (or at least give it a chance)
