I guess stories like this (From the Australian),: "Brisbane airport security breach" and AP : (NYC) Transit officials on Thursday proposed banning photography on New York City’s subways and buses to deter surveillance by terrorists of the nation’s largest mass transit system.
give us more reason to be afraid. Afraid of public places, afraid of travel and transit, afraid of loud noises or tremors.
I remember reading somewhere that some people heard a loud noise or a tremor after the Nicoll Highway collapse and ran, inciting others who had no idea why, but ran anyway.
Isn't it sad that as we get older and when we learn more about the world, that we have more reasons to be afraid ? Paranoia is such a heavy burden to shoulder, and a veil which blurs our view to even the most beautiful things in our life.
I sometimes wonder what would happen if Christ came back to the earth, not to bring the end, but just for a stroll - to see how things were doing... Imagine if he walked down the street, would he be arrested as a madman, if he knocked on the door, would anyone open it ?
Some say "ignorance is bliss" and we all look for life to get better as we get older. Shouldn't, then logic dictate that in order to be happier, we should know less ? Maybe. Maybe that's why we have alzheimer's and turn senlie - so we become more ignorant, and ergo, more blissfully unaware of the 'dangers' surrounding us.
Perhaps sometimes we just need reminders that life isn't so bad, that granted there are downsides, there are also good bits which make it worthwhile.
If I had a message for today, just share a smile. Someone else might need it. :)
